Symposium title: Soil and Water Management for Irrigation Efficiency and Soil Sustainability

Overview: This symposium will emphasize on crop land irrigation practices necessary for sustainability to optimize water and land resources. Irrigation for food production is key to meeting world population growth. However, as water declines in aquifer systems or transfers to municipalities limit water availability, limited/​deficit irrigation practices will be necessary for sustainability to optimize water and land resources. Soil erosion may also occur using a sprinkler irrigation as the rate of water application exceeds the soil infiltration rate or with furrow irrigation on the land with slope greater than 1%.
