Thus far, study on the integration of cover crops in the U.S. Great Plains has been limited. This paper reviews literature on how cover crops impact soil organic carbon, nitrogen, soil water conservation, and crop yields in this regions’s dryland cropping systems. Challenges and opportunities for integrating cover crops into dryland crop-fallow systems of the Southern Great Plains are also discussed.
