The following article gives an overview of the Journal of the American Water Resources Association’s featured series “Optimizing Ogallala Aquifer Water Use to Sustain Food Systems”.

This introduction highlights unique features of the Ogallala Aquifer as well as the context in which research is being undertaken in regards to the intersection of food and water on the High Plains.

The introduction continues to elaborate on 4 papers in particular (Haacker et al., 2019, Araya et al., 2019, Rudnick et al., 2019, Sharda et al., 2019) to show the range of topics covered by the series and the interdisciplinary nature of the research.
